Reddit stores picture and sound separately
A Reddit video and its audio are two different files, which is why a video saved by hand so often ends up silent. Both streams are fetched and merged before the file reaches you, so the download plays with sound.
Use the post permalink
Copy the link to the post itself. A subreddit front page or a user profile does not identify one video. Both old and new Reddit addresses point at the same post.
Crossposts and quality
A crosspost points at media hosted by the original post, which is what gets inspected. Reddit videos are often published at modest resolutions, so the offered caps reflect what was actually uploaded.
Know the limits
Downloads are limited to 1 GB, videos to one hour, and galleries to 50 items. Files are available for one hour after completion. Availability is checked for each link; private, login-restricted and DRM-protected media are not supported.

Will the download have sound?
Yes, when the source has an audio stream. The merge happens before the file is delivered.
Can I download from a private subreddit?
No. The post must be readable without an account.
Can I get just the audio?
An Audio only · MP3 option appears when the post exposes a supported audio stream.
Why do Reddit videos usually download without sound?
Reddit publishes picture and sound as separate files, so saving the video by hand misses the audio. Both are merged here before you get the file.
Can I download a Reddit video with audio on mobile?
Yes. The merge happens on the server, so the file you save already contains both streams.
Does it work with v.redd.it links?
Submit the post permalink rather than the bare media host, so both streams can be located.
Can I download a Reddit GIF?
Reddit serves looping posts as video, so they arrive as video files.
